Let us go on unto perfection after repentance
We update studies as the Lord Jesus leads us. You can find the latest update of this study at ChurchAges.net
Some doctrines are the basics of our faith. But we move on to seek a perfect understanding of Jesus revealed in His Word
First published on the 5th of November 2025 — Last updated on the 5th of November 2025Repentance is the first critical step on the Christian journey. That is where it starts. Letting go of your own good works that cannot save you, and trusting for forgiveness in the shed blood of Jesus. Step 2 is water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ.
The name is “Jesus”, Christ is a title meaning “Anointed One”. The title tells us which Jesus we are talking about as many men have the name of Jesus.
ACTS 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Then, after we have repented, we have to be born again of the Holy Ghost.
EPHESIANS 1:13 In Whom ye also trusted, AFTER that ye heard the Word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in Whom also AFTER that ye believed, ye were SEALED with that holy Spirit of promise,
Before being born again of our portion of the Holy Ghost, our spiritual Mother Who gives birth to us, we must first be sanctified.
II TIMOTHY 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these , he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the Master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
Salvation is when Christ picks us up as a dirty, empty vessel.
Sanctification is when He cleanses us from our sinful habits and makes us suitable for His use.
The Holy Ghost baptism is when He fills us with His Spirit to make us REST from our sins and unbelief, so that we do not go back to those bad works. Then God can start to use us
HEBREWS 6:1 “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,”
Christianity is a journey that keeps moving on. We can never complacently stop.
There is always more to learn.
There is always more to unlearn.
There is always more to re-learn.
57-0908 — Hebrews, Chapter Six #2
I want to learn, too. And the Bible is written, said, “The Scriptures are of no private interpretation.”
That means the Scripture must interpret Scripture.
See? Each Scripture must interpret the other, all the way through the Bible, to make it one great thing. Because, God can’t change, because He’s the unchangeable God.
2 PETER 1:20 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.”
We cannot say what we think of any verse. We must interpret the verse in terms of what other verses say.
Perfection. We are not perfect. But we have to believe that the King James Bible is perfect so that you have a perfect foundation for your faith. You can mess up and then your faith is not perfect.
But the foundation of your faith must be PERFECT so that you can learn more and improve your faith.
That enables us to fall and rise again.
As you believe the perfect Word, your faith can only grow stronger.
Romans 10:1 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
PSALMS 18:30 “As for God, his way is perfect:
the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.”
Perfection is found if we move in the Plan or the WAY of God.
God’s perfect way is for us to move back to the beliefs of the First Church Age.
It is possible to obtain a perfect UNDERSTANDING of Scripture. That is what we must seek for.
PHILIPPIANS 3:14 “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
Pressing on. Never being happy with where we are or what we know. Always wanting to move on further.
Philippians 3:15 “Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.”
We cannot be perfect unless we have a zeal to press on with God’s Plan in the same way as the first church age had. So, we must return to their beliefs.
HEBREWS 11:40 “God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.”
Our changed bodies will be perfect. That will only happen after the resurrection.
The resurrection will only happen after we have been restored to the first church age beliefs.
Thus, the best church age, the first church age of the apostles, can only be resurrected in their perfect bodies once we have returned to their beliefs.
Jesus is the First and the Last.
When the last church age is like the first church age, only then does the latter rain or harvest come to pull the Bride up to Heaven, off the dead church plant.
JOEL 2:23 “Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.”
The time for the latter rain is about a month. The last month of the former or teaching rain.PHILIPPIANS 3:16 “Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.”
PHILIPPIANS 3:17 “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.”
Brother Branham came to teach us how to follow Paul. Paul wrote the Scriptures. Following the Scriptures is the path to perfection.
Perfection is what we must endlessly strive for. Always trying to better ourselves.
The more Jesus takes over our lives, the closer we get to perfection.
PHILIPPIANS 3:12 “Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect:
but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.”
We can obtain a perfect understanding of Scripture that joins up scattered verses into a theme that runs through the Bible from start to finish.
LUKE 1:3 “It seemed good to me also,
having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first,
to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,”
2 CORINTHIANS 13:11 “Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.”
Perfection involves the Bride believing the same and living in peace with each other.
2 CORINTHIANS 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
We are not strong. We are weak. But perfection comes from God. So, when we are weak then God is able to demonstrate His perfection through us.
1 PETER 5:10 “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.”
Suffering is an essential ingredient in the pursuit of perfection.
HEBREWS 6:1 “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,”
Repentance from dead works and faith towards God are critical to begin our Christian experience. But that forms the foundation of our Christian walk, it is not the sum total of our Christian walk.
Once the foundation of a building has been laid, we have to start building.
Once we have genuinely repented and have put our faith into the hands of Jesus alone, then we must begin to grow in Spirit and in Truth.
JOHN 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Sprit and in truth.
The function of the Holy Spirit is to guide us into all truth.
JOHN 16:13 Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth:
The only way you know that you have the Holy Ghost is when you find that you can understand the mysteries of Scripture.
Matthew Chapter 25 says that only the wise virgins with the oil will be ready for the Coming of the Lord.
DANIEL 12:10 … but the wise shall understand.
HEBREWS 6:2 “Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”
The other basic doctrines that we need to know as the foundation of our faith before we move on to find a perfect understanding of the Bible mysteries.
Water baptism in the name of Jesus.
The titles Lord or Christ (the Anointed One) are mentioned with the name Jesus, to show which Jesus we are talking about. But the name of God is Jesus.
ACTS 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
ACTS 8:12 “But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.”
:15 [Peter and John] “Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:”
:16 “(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)”
ACTS 19:5 “When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
The ONE name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost is Jesus.
None of the Father’s Old Testament names are mentioned in the New Testament. Thus God the Father has had no name for 2000 years.
The Holy Ghost has no name in the Bible.
It is impossible to find one name for three People.
The Trinity God has not got a name. Thus, He contradicts the Third Commandment.
There is also the Holy Ghost baptism which fills people and can then guide them on the journey that will make them understand the truth of Scripture so that they can worship God in Spirit and in Truth.
HEBREWS 6:2 “Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”
Laying hands on people to ordain them or heal them or just pray for them.
The resurrection of the New Testament Bride is soon to happen, just before great Tribulation starts. That starts the Latter or Harvest Rain. Then the unwritten seven Thunders will utter and that will show the living Bride how to change their bodies into sinless, eternal bodies. The full Bride is then caught up to Heaven to meet the Lord.
Eternal judgement does not mean that Hellfire is eternal. Then you would need eternal life to serve out your sentence. But eternal life is the Holy Spirit, Who saves you from Hellfire.
The Judgement is eternal. There is no way that God will later change His mind and allow you into Heaven if He condemns you to hell on Judgement Day.
JUDE 1:7 “Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”
Vengeance is a property of a person, not of fire which has no feelings.
The “eternal fire” refers to God who says, “Vengeance is mine”.
HEBREWS 12:29 “For our God is a consuming fire.”
ROMANS 12:19 “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
All these doctrines are the basic foundations of our faith that allow us to go in search of perfection, a perfect understanding of how Jesus is revealed in His church as He walks through the pages of His Word, the King James Bible.
These pages reveal His thoughts and His great salvation Plan.
God above us as the Father.
God with us as the Son.
God in us as the Holy Ghost.
COLOSSIANS 1:27 “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of
this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:”
